Great post! Amen's all around. I really enjoy reading your blog. Keep up the good work.

I’ve just started a new blog that will be highlighting the dangerous advances of the secular progressive movement (pro-gay “rights”, pro-abortion, anti-religious freedoms, etc). Unfortunately, most Christians still don’t know what’s going on out there and the mainstream media certainly isn’t covering it.

We’re looking to build a solid group of social conservatives (especially Mike Huckabee supporters) who’ll frequent the site regularly and contribute to some good discussions. The site gets updated daily with breaking news, so you’ll want to check back often, or you can just sign up for our News Feed. I hope you’ll check it out!

If you’ll add us to your blogroll we’ll gladly add you to ours. Just drop us a comment over at our blog so that we’ll know to add you.
Divorce is also a moral issue. Matthew 19:9 "Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery."

However this is a moral issue that most people no longer believe will keep them from inheriting the kingdom of God. It fact it has become acceptable to divorce for mere "irreconcilable differences". Who is to say homosexuality will not be seen the same way in fifty years.

Benjamin, you raise a valid question, and I'll try to answer it without taking up too much of your time.

There are some parts of the Old Testament of the Bible that address civil laws, which we don't observe any more because they had only a temporal application in the specific time and place. It isn't important to build a parapet around the roof of your house anymore because we don't (most of us) go up on the roofs of our houses. It was important not to mix meat and milk back in ancient times because doing so would ruin your clay pots. Not a concern today.

But the OT of the Bible, and the New Testament too, treat homosexuality as a moral issue, not a civil one. That's because holiness is timeless.

As far as your concern about what parts of the Bible are cited, I dismiss that line of reasoning. The citations in this piece come from eight different books of the Bible, seven of those books are in the NT. And to answer another of your concerns, yes Jesus was concerned about morality, that's why he said "Go and sin no more."

Of course there are other very important issues, but that doesn't mean that this one shouldn't be discussed.

It seems that the passages that you quote also speak out against eating lobster, drinking a beer, and "foolish talk". Leviticus is a somewhat dubious guideline for modern living, no?

But hey, there are some other Christian texts that you quote much more sparingly--those Gospels. I'm no scholar, but aren't they the ones about Christ? And is seems that he wasn't terribly verbose about gay men (not to mention gay women and bi-folk, who aren't condemned at all in the passages you mention).

So, really, how much importance do you feel Christ would give to someone's sexuality? Why, I bet that there are hundreds of things that all Christians, queer and straight, can agree on. Tell you what, why don't you work to end poverty, volunteer at a prison or two, and strive to obtain peace in the world...

After you've finished, then we can site down and discuss the other parts of this world that might or might not need fixing, like homosexuality and the blending of textiles.

Obama is the perfect example of what is wrong with religion. The problem with religion in general is that no one human being other than the Divine Creator can even come close to understanding the limitless scope of Divine wisdom, whether you're a Dobson, an Obama an Osama, a Bush, Joe Sixpack or Joe the Plumber. We're all ignorant to one degree or another and in our ignorance, no matter how much we know about the Bible or any other book of "Divine" wisdom, we're doomed because no matter how much we know, or how much we think we know, we just don't get it.

It's just a shame that humanity, even with the help of Christ and all the others out there in the spiritual no man's land of absolute divine misunderstanding, can't put the religious books into their proper perspective and find a way to get along. It's a shame we all can't find a way to stop the hate, start the love and take care of the innocent victims of religious fanaticism. I'm praying for the girls who got acid thrown into their faces this week because some ignorant religious fanatic decided girls trying to live to their human potential by going to school, have the no rights at all. But that's a whole other other story.

Obama isn't all that far off the mark when it comes to the damage religion does. Millions of people take the Bible and other religious books out of the divine context in which they were meant and as a result, people get stoned, people enslave people, and in today's world, people bomb innocent bystanders and innocent school girls get acid thrown into their faces.

I think Obama's on to something. The Sermon on the Mount is what we need, and I am sure he does as well, but nobody gets that, either.
